About Us

Velamenorca is an association dedicated to promoting sailing and bringing the sea closer to the people of Menorca and its visitors. Our mission is to offer unique experiences that connect people with the sea.

Come and discover the beauty of Menorca from the sea with Velamenorca!

Our Objectives

1. Promote sailing and Nautical culture.

We aim to introduce the magic of sailing to both locals and visitors by offering accessible activities that encourage enjoying the sea and practicing sailing. We are passionate about spreading knowledge and values of nautical and maritime culture, sharing the tradition and respect for the sea that is part of our identity.

2. Develop Nautical Skills for Greater Safety and Confidence.

We offer practical and theoretical training with the goal of helping sailors acquire or improve their nautical skills. We believe that learning to sail is more than just mastering a technique; it's a way to strengthen confidence and safety both in oneself and on the sea, making each journey a more enriching and secure experience.

3. Promote Sustainable and Active Tourism.

Menorca, with its unparalleled natural beauty, is the perfect destination to enjoy sailing in a responsible way. We encourage tourism that respects the limited natural resources, prioritizing local consumption and the conscious use of the destination's resources. We firmly believe in ecotourism as a way to preserve our natural surroundings while enjoying them.

4. Raising Awareness About Marine Biodiversity.

The sea is a vital ecosystem for our planet, and at Velamenorca, we are committed to bringing people closer to the biodiversity of our seas and oceans. Through our activities, we aim to raise awareness and educate about the importance of protecting and conserving marine environments, promoting greater respect for marine life.

5. Promote a Conscious Lifestyle Aligned with the Environment.

We strive to raise environmental awareness through sustainable practices that encourage new habits and responsible attitudes towards consumption and the use of natural resources. We believe that small changes in our daily actions can have a big impact on the preservation of our planet, and we work to ensure that every member of our community can contribute to this cause.

6. Make Sailing Accessible and Inclusive.

At Velamenorca sailing is within reach for everyone. We believe that sailing should be inclusive and affordable, regardless of age, gender, or previous experience. We want everyone, no matter their level of knowledge, to have the opportunity to learn and enjoy the sea, fostering inclusion and participation in our activities.

Our Vision

With the sea as our main ally, Velamenorca aims to be a leader in promoting sustainable sailing in Menorca. We work to help more people discover the pleasure of sailing, develop new skills, raise awareness about environmental protection, and, above all, enjoy nature in a responsible and respectful way.

Velamenorca and Think Blue Expeditions

Velamenorca was born from the dream of Think Blue Expeditions, a sailing project through which, over the last four years, we've explored much of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, from the Canary Islands to Madeira and the Azores. This year, we decided to take a step closer to home with Velamenorca, a project that deeply excites us.

The goal is to promote the world of sailing, not only as a sport but also as a lifestyle that we've chosen for ourselves.

Behind these projects are us: Carlos and Aroa.

Velamenorca is much more than a project. It's an opportunity to live life differently, to connect with the sea and nature, and to share our passion for sailing with others. We're excited to continue this journey and, above all, to invite others to be part of this unique experience.

Carlos

Carlos has been sailing his whole life. His passion for the sea began at the age of 4 when he first stepped aboard a sailboat. Since then, he has never stopped. As a young man, he was a sailing instructor, teaching at the reservoirs of his hometown in Extremadura, where he began training in dinghy racing and forming teams of young people who were starting out in this wonderful sport. His desire for adventure took him to the sea, and at the age of 14, he crossed his first oceanic leg, sailing from Huelva to the Canary Islands, covering more than 600 nautical miles offshore.

Throughout his career, Carlos has worked on various vessels, always seeking the most special ones: classic sailing boats, which allowed him to continue learning and developing as a sailor. His passion for adventure even led him to cross the Atlantic, from Cape Verde to the Caribbean. Ultimately, he decided to found his own project, Think Blue Expeditions, to explore the world through sailing.

Aroa

I had never sailed nor knew anything about the world of sailing until I met Carlos. At that time, I was living in Barcelona, running my own nautical event company, and had already obtained my recreational boat captain's license. I had made a few trips with friends to the Balearic Islands, but I had never faced the real challenge of sailing and living the world of sailing. When Carlos proposed it to me, I felt like a world of possibilities was opening up. It was then that I decided to leave my life in Barcelona behind and embark on this journey. I wanted to live in harmony with nature, travel sustainably, and discover new places by sailing. I wanted to offer others the opportunity to share this experience, living aboard our sailboat during their vacations or free time. So, together, we shaped this project and got it started.

Today, I have been sailing for 4 years, living aboard and traveling to incredible places. The Canary Islands were my first sailing school, the environment that allowed me to learn how to face the challenges of the sea, which tests us every day. I also discovered the Mediterranean, the Greek Islands, Sicily, Sardinia, the Balearics, and ocean crossings that took us to the Azores and Madeira. These paradises in the middle of the ocean are still places I want to continue exploring and sharing with everyone who wants to experience the magic of sailing."
